West Ham United v MLS All-Stars On ESPN Tonight

    Sorry pal but what a MORONIC news post - "The club has few players that spark a lot of emotion other than Dean Ashton. Then there’s boring old manager Alan Curbishley" - West Ham have the some of the most passionate fans in the world, they just don't fit in with the MLS view that everything has to be glamorous and glitzy. We're a REAL football team - the football is important not the hairdos and egos. How football should be.

    If you think Liverpool would be more exciting.
    Then you don't know much about Premiership football.
    They have the players but on few occasions do they entertain.

    1. Watch the 1966 world cup final, the captain, both goal scorers and STILL the only player to score a hat trick in the world cup final.

    2. Watch FA Cup final west ham v Liverpool referred to as the best post war if not ever FA cup final.

    3. All the stars that you seem to think are the greats of the EPL, Ferdinand, Lampard, Cole, Carrick- Come from ONE CLUB- Football Academy - On of the best in Europe - renowned for it.

    I hope they turn you lot inside out tonight (on the pitch only). And if you feel lamented by this 'Dull event, don't watch it and don't post such a negative article.

    The above does nothing to help the real football world to take you lot seriously as a football nation!

    Agree with all the above comments. Would like to add that Liverpool would've put a youth and reserve side out for this game anyway and I can guarantee that you'd have been bitching about that fact a lot more than you'll be bitching after the game tomorrow. "Vanilla" football club - 'av a word with yourself mate.

    Mate your a disgrace. Just another yank who KNOWS NOTHING about the world outside.

    We have been around over 100 years (thats almost as long as your country!)

    We are known throughout the football (note not soccer) world as a team that plays attractive football.

    We have 36000 fans watch us every week (thats about a years worth for anyone in the MLS)

    we are the worlds 10th richest team.

    We have nurtured the talents of about 3/4 of the england team.

    We have won FA cups, uefa cups, cup winners cups. Oh and the world cup.

    We have some of the most passionate supporters in the world.

    When you lot in the colonies look up from your own navel's then you may realise that even though you have some home grown talent that would just about squeeze into our first team and a bunch of old has beens looking for one last pay check.

    When you actually build a stadium just for football then you can call yourself a football nation.

    EDUCATION, EDUCATION, EDUCATION, tonight the MLS are playing the club that taught the world how to play back in the late fifties and sixties so please do not excercise your ignorance with such poppycot. Every serious football team today play as the great West Ham side of the sixties which is square across the back and against FA thinking at the time so whatever the result have some respect for greatness!

    If West Ham wins they join a long line of USL and lower division sides to beat the MLS this year.

    MLS just two years ago beat Chelsea in an all star game that I was pleased to attend in Chicago. I look at that side and compare it to tonight's and I wonder, where have all the stars in MLS gone?

    MLS still hasn't lost one of these games to foreign opposition leading some to believe the games are fixed. That Chelsea game wasn't fixed for sure: MLS played damn damn well, and had me believing the future was bright for the league and soccer in this part of the world. But without Freddy Adu, Rico Clark, Ronnie O'Brien Dwayne DeRosario, Eddie Robinson, Chris Albright and Jaime Moreno who were outstanding that day the MLS all stars will have rely on 30 somethings like Beckham, Angel and Blanco to get a result as well as second rate American players other than Landon. Taylor Twellman the other really outstanding American is hurt, and several Americans of note are already gone to Olympic team duty. So really this is now turned into a second tier group of "All Stars."

    In other words I'd be shocked if West Ham does not crush the "All Stars" tonight. The one MLS player worth keeping an eye on is Shalrie Jospeh. He's one of the best the league has ever produced and Steve Nicol on three separate occasions turned down large transfer fees for him, twice from Celtic!

    BMO should be rocking tonight, but it's always rocking even when TFC loses to second division sides!

    One more note on that Chelsea game. It was actually later, actually in August just a few days before the Community Shield and Jose choose to blame the loss on Sheva not being acclimated with the Chelsea way yet. I recall Mourinho saying that starting Sheva was due to trying to get him on the same page with Drogba and the loss was because they wasted a half trying to get the two working together. I'm glad to see two years later that worked out so well for the boys from Fulham.

    Absolute RUBBISH! This guy has no idea what he's talking about. I am from Toronto, a TFC season ticket holder, and a Liverpool supporter, but I would never talk smack about a great team like West Ham! They have a great history, have developed some of the best players in England, and are a wonderful team to watch.

    Why wasn't Emilio picked is beyond me. The guy has been a top 3 player in the league 2 seasons running(and a top goalscorer).
    I will be watching tonight. Last week, I saw the 3:3 Columbus/ KC game and that guy, Baros Schelotto is absolutely amazing, even at 36/37. The way he reads the game, dictates the tempo, and his ability to change the outcome with one pass is still very rare in the league. Too bad he didn't come here like, 6 years ago. No wander he is a legend at Boca. He is that good.
    That said, I am expecting a show tonight.

    But a win against MLS and maybe you should play off with Crystal Place USA for bragging rights. The point wasn't to take a shot at you it was to take a shot at MLS. Stop being so sensitive.

    A rather poor post by the Gaffer but at least something was said. Media coverage, even if poorly done, is better than nothing. West Ham should be proud of their club's tradition and all MLS fans should welcome the chance to host a world class side like WH. MLS does not have any real tradition but the North American league is working hard to develop a quality league. At some point in the future MLS might have a product that is globally respected. Until then let MLS learn from our tradition-rich brothers across the pond. Let's hope for an entertaining match without injuries.

    West Ham are a great club with history
    The Premier League is littered with the talent they've produced at their Academy
    They finished 10th last season in spite of having an injury list as long as your arm
    The bookies make them 5/2 favorites and I expect them to do to David Beckham's rag tag bunch the same as they did to away to Derby last season 5-0
    I put the MLS Allstars at about the same level as a mid-table Championship League team

    West Ham is my heart and soul club. I have supported West Ham for nearly 40 yrs (fan club member and all) and am an American serving in the US forces. I support the Revs in MLS so tonight is extra interesting for me with Stevie Nichol managing against MY club. West Ham is one of the most entertaining footballing sides in the world and even David Beckham will tell you that. I am a proponent of the MLS growing into a better league and it is slowly doing that. The US is producing some quality players (Taylor Twellman anyone?). Games like this help give both sides good exposure. Even though it is early pre-season for West Ham they will come to play. They always do and they will play stars unlike many other teams that come to these events. There is more to football than Man U, Chelsea, Liverpool and Real Madrid. This will be a good match to enjoy and will be an advertisement for the game. Look around at West Ham. They are bringing world class first team talent to the match. Scott Parker (England int'l), Matt Upson (England int'l), Lucas Neill (Aussie int'l capt), Craig Bellamy (Wales int'l capt), Julien Faubert (France int'l), Freddie Ljungberg (Sweden int'l capt), Rob Green (England int'l), Mark Noble (England U21 int'l capt), Anton Ferdinand (England U21 int'l), Dean Ashton (England int'l), George McCartny (N Ireland int'l). Enjoy the game.

    I for one and am looking forward to the match tonight. I've not gotten to see as many MLS games as I had planned on but it'll be interesting to see how the All-Stars match up against West Ham. It's really a win-win in some senses for MLS as if they lose they can simply say that the players have no chemistry together but if they win they can point to a strong league with players capable of playing at any level, etc. etc.

    Just for the few Canucks that might be reading this, the game is being shown on CBC Ontario (not nation wide) at 7pm EST and is also on CBC-HD (which is available in most major Canadian cities) at the same time.

    I have know idea why people are drawing on WHU winning the world cup or blooding players like Lampard, Cole, Ferdinand, etc.

    So what?

    We're talking about today's game and today's WHU.

    I can't remember WHU moving out of 10th place for about five months in last season's WHU. That's pretty middle-of-the-road.

    On the other hand, WHU have some decent players.

    I'm exciting to watch the game, but because of the players on the pitch, not to get misty-eyed about Geoff Hurst or David James.

    Can everyone take a deep breath here and also stop the silly name calling.

    If anyone knows anything about North American sports All-Star games you would know they are a joke, it's playground stuff. WHU may or may not be the worlds best football team, but the All Star game is not the forum to prove it. MLB, NFL, NBA, name the sport, has had major issues keeping the All Star event from becoming a complete disaster, and MLB had to admit at one time that it's game was a train wreck.

    So please, just enjoy "the show", enjoy seeing WHU playing in the North American time zone live, enjoy the very lively TFC fans, but remember it's only a exhibition.

    Blanco is now and will forever be the enemy of fans of the US National Team. I'm glad he's done well in Chicago and brought new fans to the league. He benefited today from playing with Beckham, S. Joseph and J. Toja, one gifted footballer, one tough as nails and tactically savvy holding player, and one very technical left footed midfielder. Blanco can be brilliant but just don't expect more Americans to like him even though we are greatful he's come to MLS.

    I can still see that golden goal he scored to beat us in Azteca in the 1999 Confederations Cup semifinals. We were playing for PKs hoping for Friedel to save us there and we got burned. Brad got way off his line and Blanco in a cheeky fashion chipped it over him for the "golden goal" . We were eliminated and the enemy beat Brazil in the final.

    By the way, West Ham was sooooooo much better and a credit to this event than Chelsea was two years ago. Despite MLS only winning that game 1-0 Chelsea was dominated, playing at half speed and more concerned about hitting the town or the local bakery in some cases than taking a good account of themselves.

    Tonight West Ham was a credit to football and it was an outstanding match, where the English team that was invited actually performed like they wanted to be over here.

    I thought it was a very exciting match. The players played very loose, letting some exciting passes and strikes fly. I personally thought the MLS all-stars dominated the game, but what does that really mean? They are an all-star team in mid-season form and West Ham is a 10th place EPL team in training camp. Good event overall though.
