Amazing! Great job! Well done, ESPN!

Re: TV Schedule for Euro ‘08 Group Stage

I have no problem with MLS playing through the schedule. Frankly for the clubs to survive they have play in the spring, summer, and into the fall months because the teams would die on the vine if they played on the world schedule. The league has franchises now that don't draw great numbers in the Summer could you imagine being in an empty Giants Stadim the middle of January for a Fire/Red Bulls match? I am of the belief that MLS has to let their best players go with no strings attached for International Duty. International Football takes precedence over the MLS all the time. Its ridiculous that Bradley has to bend his schedule and preperation of the the National Team for MLS. What kind of relationships do FA's outside of the United States have with MLS teams in terms of selection of squads.

I love that there is no offseason for soccer fans in the US. And really is there ever really an offseason in soccer as every summer there is tournaments throughout June. Intertoto Cup qualifiying in July. The transfer market will get heated in July. Soccer never really stops as there is always games going on somewhere at a decent level unlike our gridiron that is in dead season from the end of January to August!

Re: TV Schedule for Euro ‘08 Group Stage

The other sports thankfully for me aren't a problem at this time of year besides Golf. I don't watch the NBA or MLB in the least so I do not care. Next week however is the US Open and I clear my work and family schedule to watch that start to finish.

Re: TV Schedule for Euro ‘08 Group Stage

MLS could be dead in this environment and deserves to die. How many teams have full squads for the next month. Yet MLS not only play through the international calender but actually increases the schedule do that the participating teams in Superliga can have a few weeks off during that tournament.

The US MNT is still substantially more supported and popular than MLS and right now the league is digging its own grave with the fans it needs, because not only do they keep playing through the US matches but even worse Bob Bradley clearly is choosing his squad around the MLS schedule meaning our full national team HAS HARDLY EVER IF EVER PLAYED TOGETHER ENTERING QUALIFYING. What other nation has this problem? I bet none.

Re: TV Schedule for Euro ‘08 Group Stage

Kartik:

Club or Country may become a problem with the fan in the near future. How can one keep up with the so called soccer off season. In Chicago this weekend we have the Fire with a home game and Mexico playing Peru in a friendly. BTW, Ericksson will not coach but is in town. I guess he's trying to meet with Obama. lol!

And I have four Euro 08 games on ESPN this weekend. All of this with the Cubs and Sox in first place, the NBA finals going on, the Belmont Stakes and a chance for history, and I know I'm forgetting something. You see why I was up at 5:30am on a Saturday to do my workout!

Re: TV Schedule for Euro ‘08 Group Stage

Lou,

I should not be saying this but take a few weeks off from MLS. They ought not to be playing through all of this. The fact that MLS would schedule matches at the VERY SAME TIME AS THE US AND CANADA PLAYS INTERNATIONAL MATCHES deems it unworthy of our support until the internationals conclude.

Re: TV Schedule for Euro ‘08 Group Stage

The only problem I have is soccer fans in the US have no off season! It's a really problem. By the time Euro 08 ends the pre-season in Europe starts, and we have the MLS in full swing and then the summer games with the US having medal chances in both Mens and Womens soccer.
I actually have thought about making a vacation period from soccer, it's that good or bad, can't really tell. But it's all fun!

Re: TV Schedule for Euro ‘08 Group Stage

Sorry about that, that was from my own website.

Re: TV Schedule for Euro ‘08 Group Stage

"Remember, starting Sunday, you can find daily recaps of the previous day’s action and brief looks ahead to the two games that day here at English Soccer Talk."

English Soccer Talk??

Re: TV Schedule for Euro ‘08 Group Stage

ESPN also has all the US qualifiers this month, so it's going to be a busy month of soccer on the network!
