He mostly played in a 4-5-1 from what i remember, and he seemed to like to run onto the ball played over the top. if we play any games away from home where the opposition defend high up the pitch to press and compress the play, this system may work well - especially with huddlestones range of passing. i was think of a line up like this:

Gomes

Hutton Woodgate King Bale

Huddlestone

O'Hara Modric

Lennon Dos Santos
Bent

We would need to defend deep and invite teams to come at us a bit, and that might be its flaw.

Re: Tottenham Hotspur Is Ready To Crack The Big Four

I BELIEVE TOTTENHAM ARE THE BEST AND IM A PAEDOPHILE

Re: Tottenham Hotspur Is Ready To Crack The Big Four

some loose "truths" floating around.

+fact no. 1+
forget the irrelevant knockout-style FA cups. Outside the top 4, everton (9 titles), villa (7), sunderland (6), newcastle (4), blackburn (3) have been english champions more times than spurs.

+fact no.2+
forget all competitions. spurs weren't the 2nd highest EPL scorers last season. they were behind villa - and even liverpool.

+fact no.3+
spurs are 7th, not 4th, in the all-time EPL table - behind the top 4 plus villa and newcastle.

Re: Tottenham Hotspur Is Ready To Crack The Big Four

Of course talks are talks but we do enjoy them. speculation and debate are part of the game you sure agree.

having said that, spurs is in a very strong position this year. i still believe Liverpool is slightly stronger but it will be very very close.

also suspect that spurs are lining up a surprise signing in the next few days.

Re: Tottenham Hotspur Is Ready To Crack The Big Four

Is it me or do only about 10% of Spurs fans on this board or anywhere else think we are going to finish in the top 4?

In which case, all you tossers who think we have egg on our faces really are delusional. It's you lot that keep shouting about us finishing top 4, not the vast majority of spurs fans. 90% of us believed it was a possibility the past couple of summers, but as they are this summer, the odds are in favour of Liverpool scraping 4th place again.

If we do finish 4th, I think all Spurs fans would be entitled to shouting "WE TOLD U SO!" even though only 10% of us predicted it. Its only fair we should take undeserved credit given that we always have to take the ridicule about making predictions that we never made.

Re: Tottenham Hotspur Is Ready To Crack The Big Four

clown says: "Every year Spurs to break the top 4 but only Everton consistently nearly (and once did) acheive this."

How is that possible given that Spurs finished 5th two seasons in a row before last season? Some people just chat bollox.

clown says: "to think they will jump from 10th to 4th is stupidity and shows a lack of respect for the other teams that finished above you that are all getting stronger too"

We finished 5th 2 seasons in a row, then last yr:

1. We got off to a bad start
2. We had 8 defenders have significant injuries.
3. We brought in a new manager in the middle of the season.

If this happened to Man Utd, Chelsea, Liverpool or Arsenal, it would probably cost them 20 league points too. There is really no way of overlooking these facts and ignorantly claiming we were shit last yr. Last season was clearly an abberation given the two previous 5th placee finishes and the aforementioned problems last year. Yet we still managed to win the Carling Cup coming from behind to beat chelsea and we have bought 4 excellent players - Woodgate, Hutton, Dos Santos and Modric.

Darren Bent scored 0.52 goals per 90 minutes played. ie better than a goal every 2 games. Granted he did not play much, but that is up there with the best.

Re: Tottenham Hotspur Is Ready To Crack The Big Four

“Tottenham now has a team who is strong in every position.”

John's response: "Not if Keane and Berbatov leave."

Because of course, Spurs will definitely not buy any strikers to replace them.

We did not have the worst defense in the league outside of the bottom 3. We had the most injured defense in the league. If Man Utd or Chelsea had 8 defenders out injured for half the season, then they would have let in a lot more goals.

I don't know about top four, but Villa and Everton do not scare me. Portsmouth, on the other hand, look very impressive. We have the 5th most talented squad in the league so I think finishing anything below 6th will be a surprise and a huge disappointment.

Re: Tottenham Hotspur Is Ready To Crack The Big Four

We seemed to do just fine when both Essien and Drogba were at the ACN last year.

Liverpool--- three straight years now without a trophy. How about the two seasons before that, when Spurs fielded a full strength side??

We were denied 4th place by a dodgy final day shananigans. We do respect other teams and respect all the cups we play in.

You show contempt and it's rich for a fan who mentions LFC and Arsenal who have won nothing last year!!

Getting used to winning nothing is a bitter sweet pill and you just have to learn to swallow it quietly. Check out the article at http://tinyurl.com/5gvoo6

All the signs I'm seeing from Spurs is that they're focused and ready to attack the Premier League this season. I'm very hopeful and look forward to seeing teams break up the Big Four monopoly.

Cheers,
The Gaffer

Re: Tottenham Hotspur Is Ready To Crack The Big Four

The blog poster named "Sam" needs to stop with his deep lying obsession with Liverpool . The topic is is regarding Spurs fantasy that they will finish any higher than the mid table team that they are and NOTHING to do with Liverpool.

But since you want to go there i will throw my 2 cents in and say i that i always find it strange when a rival supporter opens there mouth about Liverpool being nothing without Torres or Gerrard. They are Liverpool players and so of course they are encouraged to do well . man Utd without Ronaldo, Arsenal without Adebayor or Fabregas , All teams have their main player/players even your own Chelski rely on Drogba and Essien so whatever kind of point you were attempting to make failed.

Its funny how people claim that Liverpool wouldnt be nothing without Gerrard or Torres yet Liverpool consistently finsih in the top 4 or fidn some way to. The point you people dont undertsnad is that even if Gerrard or Torres arent at Liverpool , Liverpool will just find another star to take over ...they always do...before that it was fowler, mcmanaman , barnes etc etc.

And i find it strange that Sam supporting a club such as Chelsea has time to claim our fans are the worst in Europe when every player in Europe says that we have the best fans and atmosphere in Europe, while Chelsea cant even fill their own stadium with their fans., while the majority of teh fans you actually do have are corporate eastern bloc fat cats and bandwagon tourists. Ive been to your home games so i know for fact. Plus i live down fulham broadway.

Not only that i baltently remember the days about 7 - 10 years ago NONE of the local guys around london supported Chelsea. It was Man U , Liverpool , Arsenal and even spurs had more fans than Chelsea.

So by that law your true fans can only be about 10 years old - which obviously makes it own point. The rest are just bandwagon fans.

Liverpool having the worst fans?? , coming from a fan of a club built on Russian blood and rape money.

P.S - One things for certain , Chelsea dont have the mental capacity or capability of actually wining a major european trophy final. Feel free to get advice of the guys up anfield road- we,ve got a trophy cabinet of full of 5 of `em after all

*wink*

Re: Tottenham Hotspur Is Ready To Crack The Big Four

As a life supporter of Spurs, win or lose, i'll be behind them. But it would be foolish to think that we will be in the top 4. Ramos may have worked magic at Seville, but anyone who has experience running an organisation will know that clearing out practically the who team will only weaken the foundation. Replacements should be done gradually. The time taken for the new team to gel will probably cost enough points to deny a top 4 finish.

Why sell Steed M? In my opinion, he was one of the hardest working & consistent players on the field.

Why sell Berbatov & Keane? Is it only because they want Champions League Footie? Don't be naive. When you pay pittance for players you consider your stars & have an idiot Chairman who doesn't dispell rumours about interest from Man U & Liverpool by flatly saying that they are not for sale as they are part of Spurs future, you have just told your stars indirectly that if the money is right, OFF you Go! .

How do you sell your top players to your rivals you are trying to dethrone? ( i know that they are trying to sell Berbatov to Barca now. This is all too late now). Its like giving your rifle to the deer you are trying to SHOOT!

I hope that i am PROVEN WRONG & we do finish in the top 4. I will gladly eat humble pie!!!

Re: Tottenham Hotspur Is Ready To Crack The Big Four

I am not a spur fan but I believe they have the right materials needed for them to be break into the top four very soon but I really do not see it happening in the coming season.

http://soccerfanbase.com

Re: Tottenham Hotspur Is Ready To Crack The Big Four

Every year Spurs to break the top 4 but only Everton consistently nearly (and once did) acheive this.
THat said I think Spurs ar ecapable but Ramos hasnt convinced me - he won a worthless cup and then his team showed all the fight and passion of West Ham the rest of the season barring great matches with Chelsea and United (they won neither). Ramos also has a long history of switching clubs quickly.

They have spent big money and have a few eye opening names but if they get rid of Berbatov and Keane and are left with Bent who himself I think wants out then can they really be big 4 material?

I dont think this year the top 4 will change, Spurs will believe they can do it for a while but come Xmas will be bogged down in Europe and probably will finish 6th.

My own Arsenal are the team that will eventually be displaced unfortunately.

Re: Tottenham Hotspur Is Ready To Crack The Big Four

Gaffer,

This is not a serious post is it?

Why do we have this same laughable discussion every year?

Spurs finish 4th. (44 matches since 1990 in ALL, 3 Spurs wins total home and away!)
Anyway, Spurs are getting better and, very sadly, they seem to have a manager that knows what he is doing. Heck, they beat us in the league cup after we took the lead.

But, Spurs is historically always a cup team. They've been a lot like Chelsea through the years, never had the kind of consistency needed to win the league. Of course, no one is saying they'll do that but they must exert some consistency.

As much, they've got to find cover in the back. Anyone who watches our great league knows Michael Dawson is simply terrible. What if King or Woodgate get a knock or sustain an injury? Dawson will be counted on and that is big trouble for spurs. I like Bale at LB and Hutton at RB seems do well.

They have an abundance of attacking players on the squad so that isn't the worry.

More so, Tottenham would be a much better fit in Europe. Hasn't Liverpool been titled the worst fans in Europe something like 10 straight years? Way to represent.
More so, Liverpool can never do anything with Benitez. Since he came to Anfield in June 2004, he has a losing record against his main competition. More so, Liverpool is devoid of talent. Sure, Gerrard and Torres are as good as it gets but it is truly slim pickings after that .

With all that being said, I still find it difficult for the Yid Army (self-proclaimed Yid Army from the Tottenham camp years ago that is) to break into the top 4. But, with a bit of luck and stability with strikers (another HUGE question) and an injury to Gerrard or Torres for a small time being (or long) then I don't see why not.
But, Tottenham should start to try and build the club with short-term goals and work their way up. They should try to finish top 6 this year then worry about breaking into the top 4 the year after.

I despise Tottenham and remain amazed at how we have dominated them for a long time, but something about that club is fascinating and something about that old ground is magical.

Samueltstory@gmail.com with comments.

Cheers!

Re: Tottenham Hotspur Is Ready To Crack The Big Four

Yeah, Tottenham could finish fourth this season.

Then again, I could wake up tomorrow in a pile of cash surrounded by fifteen female supermodels.

In short: doesn't this article get written every year?

Re: Tottenham Hotspur Is Ready To Crack The Big Four

Yet another stupid post from a dreamland spurs fan.

Spurs couldnt even finish in teh top 6 last season , to think they will jump from 10th to 4th is stupidity and shows a lack of respect for the other teams that finished above you that are all getting stronger too.

Nobody outside of Spurs care about your history. Top 4 clubs are only concerend with the European cup and the League title. The remaining trophies are meaningless trohphies. The fact that spurs fans get excited over winning the mickey mouse coca cola / dr pepper cup (or whatever its called i dunno) makes Top 4 club fans laugh. Chelsea prob didnt even want the damn trophy . I know that when my team is entered into the Dr Pepper cup/ FA Cup i cant wait for them to be knocked out so that we can concentrate on the big boy trophies of Euro cup and League Title. FA Cup only ever means anything to us if the final is between 2 of the big 4 clubs.

Nobody outside of Spurs cares if you beat Arsenal because you only ever beat the big clubs when the games are either for mickey mouse trophies or meaningless games. If Liverpool won the Dr Pepper league cup id be embaressed as would most Top 4 fans.

Last season it was arsenal that was coming out. Now its Liverpool ..blah blah blah blah...

Spurs are crap 4 two reasons:

1.

because Spurs players dont have the mental ability , concentration levels and ability to handle pressure for the whole season. It doesnt matter who you buy, your players lack balls and you,ll just make your new players mentally as weak as the rest of team are.

2 .

Because your defense is relegation standard.

Re: Tottenham Hotspur Is Ready To Crack The Big Four

@JOHN

hitting the woodwork does count for something, it means chances are created and chances = goals, so hitting the woodwork is better than hit row 99, the facts are we scored the second highest goals so what is your argument, im only making a statement that had our finishing been a little better we would have scored more than united, read, think, absord, let your mind understand that spurs = goals and that ramos is no fool, and that all defensive issues will be rectified, hes no stupid look at recent stats let me remind you 5th, 5th again, lots of injuries, pressure on jol, very bad start, low confidence, ramos steps in changes things around we spank, man city, goonscum and chelsea and won a cup, it looks like spurs have been improving will be a force next term , all other negative comments are from people who are jealous or dont understand football, we have the 4th best history in the premiership ffks whats the matter with you we are gonna add more trophies cos spurs have the money, the fan base and chairman to do it accdept it i know it hurts, tough shit live with it

Re: Tottenham Hotspur Is Ready To Crack The Big Four

@ JOHN

im not being rude hear but can u read and can u understand that i havent slated jol, the fact of the matter is that jol took the club as far as he could, ramos is in a different league, although we have improved under jol, weve won a trophy under ramos and yes you are jealous cos you cannot accept the truth so please read what i wrote, try to come to terms with it then apologise to me kind regards NICK

Re: Tottenham Hotspur Is Ready To Crack The Big Four

i think spurs could finish fourth, ramos knows what it take to be in the top 4 we will play a different formation 4 5 1 it will be a solid defence with fast attacking winger lennon and capel with pavluchenco lone stricker with dos santos behind him and luca as the playmaker in center midfield. look at sevelle he knows what the problems are at spurs, where jol did not

Re: Tottenham Hotspur Is Ready To Crack The Big Four

With Jol in charge ,spurs was inconsistent although they have improve as a team over the years but still way off the big 4.

However with ramos at the helm ,n wholesale clearing of spurs dead woods, and addition of young talents , i'm very sure spurs will revive their fortune.
They will fight with Liverpool ,Arsenal for the coveted 3rd & 4th place . Gooners & LFC, better beware, R.keane is going to regret moving to LFC.
Cheers for Spurs!!!!

Re: Tottenham Hotspur Is Ready To Crack The Big Four

If they sign Arshavin, I really think Spurs should use Modric as a deep playmaker, sort of the Pirlo/Alonso role. He can tackle, he's mobile and can pick out a cracking pass if form from Croatia and Zagreb can be believed. It also solves the problem that they don't have a midfielder who can't tackle.

Ramos is looking to play 4-2-3-1, I reckon. Back five, with Zokora (is he the best they have?) holding, Modric in a similar role spreading passes around, two wingers and Arshavin behind whichever striker they buy.

That is the only way I can see them doing anything this season. Surely he won't play Zokora as the defensive-mid and let four attacking midfielders roam around? That isn't Ramos' style.

I like Ramos as a manager, i really do.

Give him 3 or 4 years and he might, just might challenge for the top 4!!!
