Pompey's expectations coming into the season were to finish in the top half of the table, which is still entirely possible, do well in the UEFA Cup, possibly even qualify for the knockout stages, and do well in the FA Cup. Most Pompey supporters realize that winning more silverware was going to be a very difficult task and that we were pretty much maxing out for our current situation.

With all of the rumors of the impending sale and the financial issues surrounding the club, those expectations have been tempered somewhat. Nobody expects us to challenge for a Champions League spot, yet we still expect competitive football. A visit by AC Milan will be a treat, but most people realize we're not up to the task of beating AC Milan, especially without Defoe and Diarra, two of our best players.

January is a crucial month for us. Even if the club hasn't been sold, it's important for the team to have a plan, communicate that plan to everyone, and move forward. Some players will leave, especially if ludicrous offers are made for some of them. If that helps us long term, then we should jump at those chances. Tony Adams will be given the opportunity to improve the team, but everyone understands the financial situation of both the club and the world economy at the moment.

AtlantaPompey....thanks for the insight and contribution. It does seem that Portsmouth are at a bit of a crossroads financially. If that can all get sorted then Adams should have a great opportunity to nail down the job at Pompey long term. No doubt the past couple years have been the best that you have seen in a long while and Adams now has at least enough coaching experience that he should be able to maintain the status. I think he is in a better position at Portsmouth than what Zola faces at Upton Park. Good luck rest of the way. Cheers!
