Reflections On Classic West Ham v Spurs Match

Started by The Gaffer · 10 months ago

What more can be said about the West Ham against Spurs match that hasn’t already been said or written? Here are a few of my reflections about the match:

Martin Tyler may have the most recognizable voice of Premiership commentators, but I thought the duo of Alan Parry and Robbi ... Continue reading »

  • i'm from singapore, and I wasn't sure which English Commentator who exlaimed "oh no !" when Stalteri pounced on the loose ball to slot home the winning goal.

thinking about it, it was both comical - the the commentator had worn his heart on his shirt (rightly or wrongly), but it was a clear Freudian slip - he was as heartbroken as any W Ham Fan...

... and I took delight in that !
  • yeah, i heard that too. Who was it? All the neutrals are saying they feel sorry for West Ham. My ass! I hope they get relegated from the Championship next season!
  • Yeah. People are already talking about it as "game of the season".
I read where someone (I think he was a Torquay fan) saying it was the best premiership game ever!

  • The 'oh no'comment was from Sky's Andy Gray, who is consistently and obviously anti-spurs in every match that they feature - witness his remarks in Spurs' last match on Keane's chest-ball (that got him sent off)when the replay so clearly showed the ball hit his chest 'Well, that shows Keane's left arm goes out and the ref was absolutely right'. The man is a pillock and should be sacked.

  • The "oh no" comment came from Martin Tyler and we all know he is a arsenal fan so that would explain his reaction
  • The 'oh no' comment was Alan Parry not Andy Gray.

And the handball against Robbie Keane was for it bouncing off his chest and THEN hitting his arm, stopping a goal scoring opportunity. I am a Tottenham fan and it was unfortunate but get your facts right mate and don't be a bitter 'everyone is against us' type of fan.
  • Martin Tyler, sorry
  • Martin Tyler and Andy Gray did the commentary in the UK. But overseas, where I live, we had the TWI commentators for this match which included Alan Parry instead of Mr. Tyler.

  • I thought Tevez was fantastic and despite all the bad publicity around his move to West Ham, based on the 606 calls after the match I listened to on Itunes he has won the Hammer fans for life with his display. Unfortuntely one Hammer fan who called complained that Tevez was the only player who truly cared about results and that the rest of the team was interested in gambling and partying.

Robbie Earle is a top flight commentator with one exception. At the end of every match he makes the same statement; "the look on the manager's face says all." I don't know how many times he has said that in the past few seasons!

Nonetheless, he is an excellent commentator and I enjoyed watching him as a player both in the EPL and with Jamaica who played a number of matches here in South Florida in which Earle participated.
  • It was a stunning game. Definitely one of the best, if not the best game this season in terms of passion, pace, and drama( if not necessarily skill).
    Tevez played his heart out.

Berbatov is too good for Tottenham. With all my respect for other top strikers such as Saha, Koyt, and even Adebayor, the Bulgarian is more talented, creative and dangerous than all of the above-mentioned players.
  • Believe it or not, both Andy Gray and Alan Parry said "Oh no". I've seen both, one live on Sky and the other (Parry) on YouTube.

Andy Gray said it twice after the goal. Alan Parry screamed it after the goal once. He could barely hide his disgust at it. This is the same man that repeatedly berates Tottenham at every opportunity. Have to hate him.
