Allardyce is a good manager who just needs time to build his team. His record at Bolton speaks for itself. He will land a new job rather quickly in my option. I could see him at Boro in the near future.
Can we also discuss that this is the 7th manager sacke this year and the 8th to change teams. I know there is alot of money at stake but how are you ever going to be good if you continue to sack managers.
Given the alternatives (Alan Shearer), I can't really understand the timing of this decision. However, longterm, I don't think Allardyce has "proven" much. He obviously has the ability to work with scant resources and keep a small club at mid-table, but that skill-set does not automatically translate to taking control of a big club and turning it into a trophy contender.
Sources close to Alan Shearer have confirmed to the BBC this evening that he is extremely unlikely to be the next manager of Newcastle.
Shearer says he is currently very happy with his job on Match of the Day.

My money would be on either Jol or McClaren. The others mentioned would likely see it as a "step down" career-wise. McClaren needs to rebuild his reputation so it might be a good move for him.
Look for a big name manager to arrive soon I reckon.
Your money favorite: Harry Redknapp.

Now, I don't think that Big Sam's done a great job or anything, but how long did he have? More importantly, what manager would want to go there when he/she could go to two dozen other sides with more realistic expectations, etc.
I'll just say that if he could win and win consistently at Bolton, he could win at Newcastle
The 'not enough time' brigade need to give it a rest - look what Eriksson's done at Man City. He just took over for this season and they're sitting in the top six.
If any other team wants to break into the big 4, or is it now 3 1/2, then you can either be sold to a super-rich owner who will buy every player he wants or spend the years it takes to build a youth system , acquire players on the market, and play smart football. Anything else just won't do. So, if the managerial merry-go-round continues, this fans passion for English football will diminish.
Newcastle to make official approach for Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp on Friday morning. Redknapp said to be contemplating making the jump.
