Right now the US isn't one of the top 5 nations in the region and is not making the World Cup. My view considered radical a few months ago has now become a mainstream position. When you have failed to replace four of your top five players from the previous set of players and your two most consistent players right now are 33 and 34 you are in trouble. I tried warning people about what I have seen watching the national team as closely as I do, but have simply been ignored until this point. You will not believe the number of recent emails I have gotten that have said "you were right a year ago about Bocanegra and Dempsey," etc, etc.

Sven will quickly fault Mexico into the top position in the region. no doubt in my mind. Despite the knee jerks haters Sven is light years ahead of any of the regional coaches in the strategy and tactics of the game.

After the complete break failure of the USA in it's European trip this last week, Sven's appointment is another major setback to the USMNT. note to the USSF do not schedule major matches if your talent won't show up.

Mexico looked so pathetically bad the other night, so embarrassingly bad I think Sven has a tougher job than he's ever had to grapple with if that performance was any indication. That having been said he still should make the World Cup.

Right now these are the top 5 teams in CONCACAF

1- Honduras
2- Costa Rica
3- Panama
4- Mexico
5- Guatemala

So essentially Sven just needs to pass up someone, likely Panama to make the World Cup. But watch out for Canada in that first qualifying group. They seem more dedicated to attacking than ever and may make things interesting.

England had it's best run for decades losing only 5 competitive games 2001/2006 - TheFA dump Sven amid howls of protest from official fan organisations and team members - England crash in flames for Euro08. England qualifying for W-Cup 2010??????
MCFC has it's best season in decades - Thaksin dumps Sven amid howls of protest from City fans and team members - MCFC staff and fan morale crashes in flames. MCFC next season????
There appears to be a bit of a pattern emerging.......
The other bad news is the England now have Svennis (and his amazing personal support team!) with Mexico to contend with, IF we qualify for the next World Cup competition.
Anyone for tennis?

Mark Hughes will not be Manchester United's next manager, and I think the only way he'll ever be a manager at Old Trafford is in charge of the visiting team..

United's next manager will be Jose Mourinho, who will have worn out his welcome in Italy by the time Ferguson retires. Mourinho has always said that he wants to come back to England, he has a great deal of respect for United and Ferguson, and has the resume to coach the second-biggest club in the world. After United, Mourinho will go back to Portugal as the national team coach, then retire.

IF City didnt have the owner they did I would say this is a good move but your owner is clueless as to how to fun a football club. If he got rid of Sven after the season he had, what will it take for Hughes to stay.

I think it is fair to say that Mark Hughes will have to make city a top 4/5 club and land a good haul of silverware if he is ever to be considered for the job at Manchester United. Personally i think Man Uniteds next manager could be between Martin O' Neill, Gordon Strachan, Carlos Querioz and whichever big name manager is available at the time.

Replacing 'Fergie' is possibly the hardest job any manager will ever take, who is big enough, brave enough and good enough?

Good to luck to Mark Hughes though (and he will need it with Shinawatra on last seasons evidence), i don't agree with a lot of things he says post-match but he is a good manager and it would be a refreshing change to see the silverware go to the blue side of Manchester

This is the best move he ever made.
Think about it??
They wouldn't have given him the untied job and he didn't want to wait. Why would you wait 2 years for a maybe?
Chelsea is more of a poisoned chalice than city.
We've got the best youth set up in the country.
Chelsea have got a chairman who wants to pick the team.
I don't know if any of you saw Gary Cook today but he seemed like far less of a puppet than Kenyon ever did.

I agree that Hughes did all he could at Blackburn but I don't think that moving to the Blue Bitters is a good career move for him. Unless he performs miracles this season with Cit-eh he will be sacked as well.

i fail to see y it is inevitable that MH will one day end up at OT.... surely that depends on circumstances, especially those when Taggart chucks it in.. and also what MH has done by that time at Eastlands
