Started by The Gaffer · 10 months ago

In the song “Once In a Lifetime” by the Talking Heads, the words “same as it ever was” are repeated over and over. After watching another predictable weekend of Premier League football, albeit entertaining, the likelihood of a club cracking the f ... Continue reading »

  • ughh the same with you again. please dont put arsenal with the other 3 big spending clubs. how much did arsenal really spend in the summer? we sold henry, ljungberg, and we bought bacary sagna for £7m, eduardo da silva for about £8m, and fabianski for about £2.5m.

Look at the spurs..£16.5m for bent?! that's one player, and a player who cant score a goal even if he's 5 feet from the goal.

manchester united bought nani for £17m and anderson for the same.

    come on.

please dont say put arsenal in the same sentence as manchester united, chelsea, and liverpool.

sure we wanted to sign some of the players that those 3 signed but we have a way of doing things.

we never spend more than £10m on a player. this is all absurd.

im sure portsmouth, west ham, aston villa, manchester city spent more than arsenal.

four horse race? look at who's 2nd in the table. its not liverpool, man u, or chelsea.

and what does it say about spending alot of money on players when one of the most responsible teams financially is in 1st place?

    you cant buy the championship.

chelsea spent so much money on shevchenko and ballack and what did they get in return?

dont get me wrong, i find your blog very interesting and insightful, but please take a second look at things when you want to make a point.

who are you a fan of any way?

i know you're not a fan of arsenal. you never give them any credit.

    now.....

    come on you reds!

    arsenal to win the league.

    there i said it.

i might of jinxed them, but its in my heart.

    arsene knows best.

    thierry who?
  • I'm not a fan of any Premier League club, but I have nothing against Arsenal.

I wasn't categorizing the top four as the "big four spenders." Instead, I included Arsenal among the top four clubs who always end up in the top four.

Sure, Man City is in second place now and full credit to them, but their place in the echelon of English football is temporary.

    Cheers,

  • I think you cannot ignore Man City. They have money to spent and they have a good manager too. They could spoil the top four order, maybe not this season but next season.
  • By the way, Arsenal would be well-advised to buy some high-prced midfielders.

As for your spot in the table- enjoy it now, you won't stay there!

I've never heard a fan bragging about how fiscally responsible his team was!

I agree that the spending has gone a bit haywire and players have been overvalued over the last 2 or 3 years- but cmon, man!

Tell me you wouldn't have been jumping up and down if the Gunners had landed Torres or Tevez or one of the other "big name", expensive transfers...
  • Sheesh- that's what I get for being lazy and not logging in- can't edit my comment!

They need to buy some high-priced DEFENDERS. The midfield's actually not bad.
