FIFA Futbol Mundial Coming to an End

Oliver Tse from SoccerTV.com is reporting that IMG Media has announced it will discontinue its soccer magazine TV show FIFA Futbol Mundial at the end of 2007 as part of IMG’s latest restructuring effort.

Sad sad news. That show was a lifeline for many of us into the world of football during the dark days here stateside. I'll miss the show.

The biggest problem with the show: none of the TV networks want to pay for it.

The 2nd biggest problems: the rights to highlight clips of major matches to be included in the show have gotten too expensive.

IMG hasn't made money on the show for years.

In this era of subscription soccer channels, Internet video pay-per-view, and millions of websites, a magazine TV show such as Futbol Mundial has been squeezed out of existence due to market forces.

Correct and Gerry Harrison's irritating interview dubbing voice overs don't help, plus they stupidly changed the theme tune. I await a best of.
