Started by The Gaffer · 10 months ago

Fox Soccer Channel’s acquisition of the TV rights to Serie A starting in August may mean the end of the tape-delayed 2:15pm ET Saturday EPL match on Fox Soccer Channel.
According to Fox Soccer Channel Executive Vice President David Sternberg, he’s quoted in USA Today sa ... Continue reading »

  • FSC is now overbooked between the EPL, Serie A and MLS. I'm hoping Gol TV can keep the La Liga matches because Ray Hudson deserves the exposure calling matches that Gol TV gives him. He is the best!
  • Actually, it may not be a great loss.
After being up by 6:00am to watch the first match and the 9:00am match and follow all the other scores, and the 11:00am match. And knowing the score by then, and that it's not the big match of the day, and wanting to get to post game shows. We can survive without it.
  • EPLNFL - speak for yourself! I know I speak for other ex-pat football fans here: If your team is playing on tape delay, you'll do your utmost to avoid learning the score and watching as if it was live. I'm a Spurs fan and Tottenham games have been in this time slot on a couple of occasions this year.

Surely Italian football fans can get their fix from Rai!?
  • I myself would rather prefer the tape delayed EPL match rather than the Serie A matches.
I just don't receive the same amount of excitement and satisfaction from any other league other than England and Spain. I suppose its a way to gain more viewers on FSC by broadening their horizons by showing other leagues on the channel other than MLS and EPL.

I would rather prefer La Liga over Serie A if it were possible.
  • You know this maybe the best thing having the Serie A match from 2:30-4:30 just because after six hours of football, some will feel overloaded.

Give the 2:30-4:30 time slot to the Italians. From 4:30-6:30 let them show the game that has been played at 2:30. Generally that timeslot is already reserved for a replayed match from earlier in the day anyway. Run that lousy Super Saturday from 6:30-7 and then problem solved.

Though wouldn't it better to not have Super Saturday at all?

  • Thanks for the Support BC. I do understand Ossie's point and you are a true and loyal supporter of your team. I think FSC has reached the same conclusion as me and decided that most of the fans are off doing other things by that time and better for there ratings to bring in an Italian league match. I think losing the live Monday night match is a great error.

I'm sure the Gaffer knows the marketing aspect better than us and could enlighten all on FSC's thinking here.
  • Fox Soccer Channel acquiring the TV rights to Serie A brings a whole new audience to Fox that they didn't have before.

While Fox had some selected Serie A matches previously, having the whole league will increase viewers and the number of total listeners. They'll appease the English ex-pat crowd and will bring in the Italian market at the same time.

    It's a win-win for FSC.

    Cheers,

    The Gaffer
