My understanding of the situation is that Pearce is the number 2 due to concerns of the FA board about not having somebody English in the lineup.

If the article you link is correct, it's at least good to see Capello does think enough of Pearce that he would want him to be that guy.

I think this is the right choice ultimately. That isn't stopping English managers from screaming bloody murder though -> http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/intern...>
