We just arent as big of a market down under for Pl clubs. Leeds i think was the last club side from England to make the trip here. Juventus are coming as part of their Asian tour.

Wish some PL teams would trek downunder during your summer. It will be winter down here and we are all primed for football. EPL has a great following and any match featuring an EPL side is sure to attract packed stadiums.

Steveo, if the soccer in America is so poor why did Chelsea lose to the MLS all stars on their last trip? I admit the sport has a way to go in the USA but your comments show your ignorance. Regardless of what it's called with enough time and money it will get bigger. With that said, I think the there is probably alot more untapped sports fans in Asia then in the US.

The reason P/L clubs wont be coming is because the standard of football in your country is so poor. We have Semi Pro teams here who are better than the majority of Pro team in the US. Most P/L teams play the semi pro sides here to help club finances.

Raise the standard if you want Europe's best to grace your Football yes football not soccer pitches.

The ball ball is moved around the pitch with either foot.. hence the name FOOTBALL !

Summers in the US may not be the best for training, but did it hurt Everton this season. Seemed to help.

The question really is can they make a buck by coming? It would seem to me that the opinion that the EPL has passed it's peak of popularity in the US maybe true, but summer tours will still be popular, maybe not just special any more.

I guess the only team that can go to Asia and not make serious cash is LA Galaxy. I dont blame the Asian people, I wouldn't want to watch that team play either.

There is no reason for any PL team to come to the U.S. during Summer 2008.

1. The U.S. dollar is weak in comparison to other currencies.

2. The Chinese-speaking high-roller gamblers in East and Southeast Asia (i.e. Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand) have way too much money lying around to spend on PL tour tickets and licensed merchandise.

3. The PL teams can vaccum up all the petro-cash that is being dangled in front of them in places such as Dubai. More money to be made with a shorter trip.

Note that West Ham is headed to Toronto, not the U.S. Canada has a strong currency and has a ton of petro-cash available now that the oil sand deposits in Northern Alberta can be mined and processed for crude oil profitably with crude oil sitting at $100 per barrel.

The way things are going: even Brazil will be a more desirable destination than the U.S. for preseason PL tours in about 10-15 years. In case you haven't noticed: Brazil is now an oil-rich nation (lots and lots of crude oil discovered offshore) and a creditor nation whereas the U.S. of the 21st century resembles more and more like the Argentina and Brazil of the 20th century, with a ton of debt and a devalued currency.

As we've talked about before, the market for the Premier League is limited in the US, and quite frankly is at its ceiling, or at least I believe it is at its ceiling. I'm not sure why any PL club would come here unless it is specifically for training purposes but the weather in the summer heat of the US can sap energy so for that it's really not a good idea either.

Spurs to India? That'll be interesting. Most Indians could care less about football, and those that do are mostly Liverpool or Man United supporters. Some pull for Barcelona and Juve, but Spurs? Not sure anyone has heard of them there.
